With "Turning Point", Blackspace has created an installation for the mcbw public space with the kind support of the Bavarian State Painting Collection at Kunstareal on behalf of bayern design that takes up the 2024 motto "How to co-create with nature" and calls on people to celebrate nature together. "Because society is at a decisive turning point. In order to secure the basis of life for future generations, we need to rethink our relationship with nature. Design can play an important role in this," says Nadine Vicentini, Managing Director of bayern design, explaining the installation's approach. "It's time for something to change. Nature can exist without man, but man cannot live without nature," adds Michael Keller, Managing Director of Blackspace.

The "Turning Point" installation is all about nature, stylizing a tree into an icon. Baumschule Bruns - a partner in this project - "transplants" its trees every four years to ensure safe growth and strengthen the proportion of fine fibrous roots. This period of regular replanting was used to give the characterful 45-year-old mountain pine (pinus mugo) a stage in the middle of Munich. Before this happens, the tree is carefully tied to the loading gauge for 14 days so that its vitality is always guaranteed. During the journey to Munich, experts are constantly taking care of the careful positioning and care of the tree.
Placed on the large open space in front of the Alte Pinakothek in the middle of the Kunstareal, the motto for all visitors is: "Let's turn it!" The "Turning Point" installation can be set in motion interactively using a crank and thus brought to life with light and sound. In line with the mcbw annual motto "How to co-create with nature", the installation emphasizes the beauty of nature as well as the essential importance of a partnership-based relationship with it. Through the calm rotation and changing light and sound staging, the installation invites visitors to linger, exchange ideas and enjoy the iconic tree. Visitors have the opportunity to take the rotation of the narrative into their own hands and participate. Immediately after mcbw 2024, the pine tree will be carefully transplanted again.
